"Educating through experience,
connecting through story" ❤
In a world where our young people are facing ever increasing levels of anxiety, loneliness and an overwhelming pressure to 'fit in,' they often find themselves reacting to situations in a way that is harmful, or that moves them beyond the boundaries of the law.
With over a decade of experience as a Police Officer and qualifications as a Master NLP Practitioner, Wellbeing Coach and a Degree in Training & Development, with progression towards a Grad. Dip. of Positive Psychology, I am committed to the wellbeing of your staff and students.
Though all presentations are written based on research, education and facts, it is the stories that connect the students to learning outcomes.
They may not remember every step, of every strategy, or every element of every offence - but I hope that when they need to, they will remember the stories I have shared.
"Just like the schools I support, every day is about the difference we hope to make."
I bumped into a beautiful lady that I had presented to 7 years earlier - and she shared that when she was faced with a cross-road in her life, she recalled a particular story I had shared with her, and she knew, in hindsight, that had she not recalled our time together, she may have made a decision that would have negatively impacted her life.
She also shared that she and her friends often talk about the things I shared with them.
Some stories are funny, some stories are not.
You see, my life journey has not been 'smooth sailing.'
Not through choice... but through circumstances.
My story will shock some of your students.
For many, they will come up and tell me, through tears, how inspiring my story has been.
It is not 'in spite' of my challenges that I am able to truly make meaningful connections and convey my messages with students, it is 'because' of my challenges that I am able to connect with them.
Whether students feel isolated, lonely, anxious... or entitled, I guarantee they will gain a new perspective from my time with them, but my biggest wish is that they will know, no matter what, that everything is going to be OK.
Leadership Review
Dawn,
Thank you so much for taking the time to come and talk to the Year 7s.
I am so impressed with everything you presented to the girls and your ability to relate with the girls is admirable.
The points you made were relevant, real and relatable and hearing the girls chatting afterwards saying “wow that was so good”, “I can’t believe that, that was very informative” means the girls got a lot of out it.
I loved the way you were able to get the girls to open up in a private (and supportive) way and educate them on the choices they make online. My favourite part was when you related everything to the “culture you create” and always linking back to “kindness” something I always push with the girls.
I really hope you would consider coming back to the College and doing the other half of the content that you said they had.
I think every year group would benefit from your talks and I will let everyone know about this at our next Pastoral Council meeting.
My homeroom teachers too only had good things to say and I also think it’s important that they hear the law because it’s surprising how little people (not just kids) know overall.
Thanks again and like I said would be great to get you back for the other half if you are interested!
Kind Regards
Kerry
PS- loved the PowerPoint layout, it was perfect for the girls! The videos and humour too made it so much better.
